Current Activities
My primary activity outside of work in Wilson County is serving on the Economic Development Committee of the Lebanon-Wilson County Chamber of Commerce.
Major Barriers
The primary barriers for me has been the fragility of starting a new business and needing to dedicate most/all of my time into creating a sustainable business/enterprise. We are almost 2 years into our journey and we have been blessed to enjoy much success, which has provided some pockets of time for me to become more involved in the local community.
Why Should You Be Selected To Participate
1) I provide a unique perspective as a business owner of a manufacturing company in Wilson County. 2) As a current resident of Rutherford County and a graduate of Leadership Rutherford, I can bring new ideas from a neighboring county facing many similar challenges and opportunities. 3) I'm a team player who really enjoys learning new things and meeting new people. I hope to give as much as I might receive in a program like this.
Expectations From/For Participation
1) Ultimately as a business owner, I hope the education I receive and the relationships I build will justify the investment (both time and money). 2) I hope to be inspired about opportunities to possibly serve in Wilson County, both individually and as a company. 3) I hope to be enlightened about the capabilities and opportunities in Wilson County. 4) I love to connect people and ideas, so I am excited about helping my classmates and other businesses/entities within Wilson County when the light bulbs go off after our training and sessions.
Community Challenge / Issue / Goal
Challenge: Not enough skilled labor to support many of the expanding businesses in our county. Possible involvement: Serve as a conduit and assist in connecting Wilson County's soon to be economic development leader with transition assistance folks at Ft. Campbell and Campbell strong. Starting the training in Middle and High School is a great solution, but it will take time. We have excellent motivated and trained personnel right here in Middle Tennessee who could change the game in our workforce gap if we can posture Wilson County as a potential home for these men and women who have served honorably.
