Current Activities / Involvement

I currently am involved with the Mount Juliet Chamber of Commerce - attending Mount Juliet Young Professionals and Leading Women.

I am also serving as the Treasurer for the Fifteenth Judicial District Bar Association which covers Wilson, Trousdale, Smith, Macon and Jackson Counties.

I also teach Wednesday night middle schoolers at Long Hollow Baptist Church in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Major Barriers

As I graduated law school and passed the Bar Exam in 2018, 2019 was my first full year practicing law. I believe that I was very involved in getting my practice going, putting my legal career above all else. Now that I have finished my first full year and have entered my second year of practicing law, I believe I can honestly say that I have gotten my "toes wet" and can begin to focus on community involvement in conjunction with my legal career.

Community Challenge / Issue / Goal

Our schools in Wilson County have been in the media within the last year for violence, specifically calling out groups of students who engage in "fight clubs". What teenagers, and even some pre-teens, are exhibiting is behavior of that of someone who cannot control their anger. Students who are engaging in these "fight clubs" are far more likely to become involved or be involved in gang violence and even drug use.

I believe there is no hard-fast solution to this problem, but that speaking out to students early on can curb these numbers. I think it is important to show students that if they exhibit behaviors like these - such as not being able to control their anger - holding a job will be difficult in the future. If we can bring students in, showing them our careers, our jobs, our clubs, our community involvement, etc., maybe we can be the one positive influence in these students lives - and maybe they will think twice before getting into a fight again.

Company / Job Responsibilities

I am an attorney dealing primarily with divorce and child custody cases. I help clients navigate through the legal system during a fragile time in their lives. I can begin with a client at the beginning stages of litigation or come in mid stream - but attempt to get all clients to a final resolution they are satisfied with.

Participation Expectations

While going through law school, I wanted nothing more than to be a big time "downtown Nashville" attorney. After law school, studying for the Bar Exam and taking the Bar Exam, I decided to take a job in what I thought was small town Lebanon. Working in Wilson County for just one week taught me that Wilson County is as very much big in what it has to offer, but as small town as one would like with familiar, smiling faces and those eager to lend a helping hand.

Should I be selected, I would enjoy learning about the community that my mother, grandparents, and great-grandparents grew up in. Now that I have come to work here for the last 1.5 years and live here for the last 9 months, I see that Wilson County has a lot to offer. I have very much enjoyed working and now living in Wilson County, and, should I be selected, I would utilize my experience by meeting others like me that are interested in furthering not only their careers, not only their family life, not only their spiritual walk, but their community involvement, too.
